December 5, 2025, The First Shenzhen Oral History Achievement Exhibition was successfully held at Shenzhen University.
Awards, including Annual Oral History Project, Outstanding Oral History Project, and Excellence in Oral History Project, were presented in both Social and Campus categories. Representatives from selected works shared their experiences and insights.
In her speech, Yi Ling, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Humanities at Shenzhen University, emphasized the event’s role in promoting oral history and encouraging public participation in preserving urban memory in her speech.
. Yue Zheng, ormer Deputy Secretary-General of Shenzhen Municipal Committee, highlighted oral history’s value in complementing official records through personal narratives. Ye Kang, Director of the Shenzhen Oral History Research Center, noted that the exhibition marked a new phase in advancing oral history in Shenzhen.
Winning projects in the Social category included Shenzhen Oral History–Hong Kong-Shenzhen Stories (Season 5) and the documentary Legend of Yuan Geng. Campus category winners featured studies on local heritage and ecological changes in Futian Mangrove.
Director Wang Zhaoyu, creator of award-winning documentaries, shared how oral history combined with visuals can vividly preserve cultural memories.
The exhibition, themed Shenzhen Stories and Oral History Practices of Shenzhen Residents, attracted widespread public engagement, with over 12 million online votes during the appraisal period. Huang Ling, a review expert, described the event as a milestone and called for expanded oral history coverage across industries.
Professor Yang Xiangyin from Renmin University of China emphasized the urgency of documenting experiences from Shenzhen’s early reform era and the potential of oral history as a valuable historical and linguistic resource.
